謝淑薇美網單打闖不過第二輪，碰上來自義大利的Camila Giorgi打得辛苦，次盤一陣纏鬥仍無法扳平局勢，最終以4-6、6（8）-7（10）敗下陣來。

現年22歲的Giorgi，世界排名一三六，曾在今年的溫網打進第三輪，她美網最好成績在第一輪，謝淑薇此前與她沒有交手記錄。

本季雙打大豐收的謝淑薇，單打並無太突出表現，澳網與溫網皆在第二輪止步，美網也是繼2008年後，再度於第二輪遭到淘汰。

另一方面，詹詠然與詹皓晴姐妹合拍挑戰美網，第一輪就以6-3、2-6、3-6不敵大會第六種子Anna-Lena Groenefeld與Kveta Peschke。

Groenefeld與 Peschke正是謝淑薇與彭帥在前進WTA年終賽上的最主要競爭者，而詹家姐妺落敗後，仍各自有混雙賽程要進行。
